Jumpstart Workspace On The Rooftop
“Children are our greatest treasure. They are our future.” – Nelson Mandela
Jumpstart Pre-School’s office sits in a bustling precinct, flanked by a tech park and a popular eatery. Blessed with abundant natural light, the long-unused rooftop was envisioned as a vibrant, year-round space by Mind Manifestation Design. The design needed to feel welcoming to parents while remaining playful and engaging for children—balancing the kindergarten’s core values of Education and Play.
The existing blue-toned ceramic mosaic flooring was retained and subtly refurbished, guiding the colour palette of new interventions. Natural wood, bold accents, and refurbished materials were used to ensure minimal built impact while blending with the proposed landscape.
Zoning
The layout accommodates two distinct functions: the CEO’s Lighthouse and a multipurpose space titled IDEA Foundry, connected by a common staircase and cosy waiting lobby. Both zones are playfully designed within a youthful, colourful envelope to redefine the user experience.
IDEA FOUNDRY
Inspired by Lego blocks, this flexible composition with integrated media doubles as an amphitheatre, casual seating, or activity zone, while discreetly addressing storage needs. Its gradient hues subtly derive from the original mosaic floor. The space hosts staff training, recreation, screenings, tutorials, and social gatherings.
CEO’s Lighthouse
Envisioned as a signature corner for client interactions, this zone combines workstations with varied seating in a playful yet refined setting. Nostalgic school elements—interpreted in a modern minimal style—add character: caricatures of educational leaders, cane and wood furniture, a traditional-style school bell used as a call bell, and an abacus-inspired workstation. Slates, boards, speakers, and signage further evoke fond school memories.
Material & Facade Strategy
Given the temporary rooftop structure, materials were chosen for economy, durability, and aesthetics. A metal-pivoted fin façade filters harsh sunlight and noise while enabling controlled light and ventilation, creating dynamic shadow play. To conceal rooftop services and reduce heat and noise, reclaimed pallets were repurposed as skyline diffusers—forming an insulating layer that enhances visual continuity and environmental comfort across the space
