The Red Door

The red door like a beacon calls out for residents to come home. Entrance becomes the initial point of interaction and also attraction. Taking solace in geometry the house then separates and connects spaces in a visually appealing and organised manner. Throughout the residence lines and arcs appear out of lime plaster finished walls and ceilings to add texture, depth and movement to the space.

With a muted colour palette for the walls, the configuration and vibrant colour of furniture helps in expressing difference in treatment of rooms and highlighting areas of interest. Most furniture being customised gives leeway to introduce distinguished elements to the design, speaking volumes about the function it frames.

Within the living room sits a green stepping geometry over a series of arches defining the contrast in geometry creating a visually appealing composition as the dining backdrop. The freshness of the colour green is adorned by the earthiness of wooden furniture.

The kitchen approached through a curved wall from the living, levels similar appeal with a twist of amusement in the flooring.

In the master bedroom a similar step installation made out of timber panelling curving along the dressing room provokes warmth along with arches in the storage unit and bend in the ceiling framing the view. The dark colour of bed and side table providing character and depth to the space with wooden study connoting organic and wholesome demeanour.

To give the guest bedroom a more open and expansive feel, one of the walls has been painted light blue with a metal sliding partition not crowding the space and visually connecting the dressing to the room. The bed here, has been remodelled out of an old bed to complement the entire ambience of the space.

With the kid’s bedroom the splash of blue in furniture adds sensitivity and inspiration. To further enhance the sense of play, levels have been introduced with a yellow cylindrical instalment accentuating the joyful disposition of the room. A single step leading to bed also provides additional storage space.

The entire residence is an example of appealing contradiction. Coherency comes from grey walls and ceiling, with the spirited furniture adding an expression of unorthodox. And just when an edge might seem to overpower, a curve comes soothing in.
