Osari: A Place for Togetherness – Amravati

Located in Amravati, a city known for its extreme hot summers and chilly winters, Osari is a native home designed for a family of six across three generations. The house blends traditional regional principles with contemporary sensibilities to create a warm, culturally rooted environment that celebrates togetherness.

Inspired by the traditional Wada typology, the design reinterprets elements such as the central courtyard (Chowk), verandah (Osari), Devadi, Dalan/Baithak, Devghar, and Swayampak Ghar. At its heart lies the courtyard anchored by a Tulsi Vrindavan, a vibrantspace for daily interactions, festivals, and family gatherings. The ground floor prioritises communal living with varied seating spaces, bridges, balconies, and a jharokha that visually connect different levels. Three bedrooms are thoughtfully planned, including an accessible suite on the ground floor for senior members. Upper-level rooms are positioned to shade the courtyard during harsh afternoon hours, responding sensitively to the arid climate.

Semi-circular ferro-concrete vaulted roofs lend the house a distinctive yet contextually rooted character. At the same time, exposed brick, muted plaster, metal elements, and lime-finished interiors create a warm, thermally comfortable material palette. Osari is a timeless home, a thoughtful blend of rustic charm and modern functionality, designed to nurture family bonds and cultural traditions.
