Studio By The Hill
BRIEF:
An architecture studio is a reflection of its ideology and a demonstration of its ability to experiment with materials while responding to context and climate. With this intent, Mind Manifestation designed their workspace by converting a 120 sq. m residential unit in an apartment building beside a hill in Pune.
THE SITE:
The floor plate is kept open and flexible, with functions defined using minimal clear glass partitions. Subtle curvilinear treatments at corner junctions introduce fluidity within the rigid framework. Spaces are oriented to surrender to the adjoining hill, and the material palette echoes its changing shades through the seasons—allowing nature to flow indoors. East-facing openings bring in ample natural light without glare or excess heat, ensuring comfortable working conditions.
THE PALETTE:
Ash wood furniture, an in-situ concrete floor, natural brick paving, and tall seamless walls finished in pastel green lime plaster create a calm and cohesive work environment. Recycled paper tubes are innovatively used for sliding shutters, seating backrests, and open shelves with customized detailing.
The entrance is marked by natural brick paving that transitions into a built-in reception desk and extends seamlessly to the terrace, strengthening the indoor–outdoor connection. Perforated brick sliding panels filter harsh southern sunlight into the multipurpose space used for meetings and informal gatherings. The façade moderates heat and channels cooler air indoors, while lime-plastered walls and brick Jaali enhance thermal comfort. Local contextual detailing is thoughtfully reinterpreted in a contemporary design language throughout the studio.
